Coming from a farming and grazing family background, and have conducted mediations under the Queensland Farm Finance Strategy for many years. Over 90% of these have resulted in a negotiated agreement between Farmer and Lender. He was registered as a Queensland Law Society Approved Mediator in 1991, have taught mediation at University under-graduate and post- graduate levels, chaired the Queensland Law Society's Alternate Dispute Resolution Comittee, undertaken training of mediators in Australia and overseas, and acted as a consultant to the World Bank in mediation.
