Gem Emmerson
Specialising in farm business debt mediation and accredited as a farm debt mediator in Western Australia and Queensland, Gem's aim as a mediator is to create certainty for both farmers and financiers, enabling everyone to move forward into the future with clarity.
Gem holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with 1st Class Honours from the University of Queensland. She first worked as a journalist at the Queensland Country Life and then at the Queensland Parliament for over 21 years providing independent and apolitical research on primary industry legislation being debated. Issues researched included feral animals and plants, genetic manipulation, animal welfare, emerging crops, water usage and management.
Gem maintains connection with the agricultural community through membership of the Queensland Country Women's Association and other rural and regional associations. As a result of this experience and networks, she has an extensive knowledge and understanding of issues impacting on primary producers in Queensland. She also administers the financial management of the family's small construction business, and as such is experienced and knowledgeable with the procurement, allocation and control of financial resources within a business environment. Gem understands the complexity and processes required in raising and managing finance.
